Fun with your camera

Fun with your camera - that's the key focus of our photography holidays.  We take you to lots of fascinating places and provide you with lots of photographic opportunities but what will be your approach? What will you see and how will you compose your photograph?  What decisions will you make when taking a photograph? Where will you stand? Will you change the height of your position or the distance from your subject? Where will you place the subject matter in the frame?  There are lots of different elements that can make a difference to your photography! That's the great thing about a photographic holiday - you can take your time and really enjoy using your camera, no matter whether you are a beginner or have enjoyed photography for years!

Whether using a small compact camera or an SLR, the above are decisions everyone will have to make.   It's very easy to stick to certain settings on an SLR, and there's nothing wrong with that, but why not be a bit more adventurous during your photo holiday? Think not only about positioning and what you usually do, but also experiment with aperture, shutter speed and ISO - whether using film or digital.

During your photographic holiday you'll need to develop an eye for all sorts of opportunities and different light conditions, composing different responses to the places we visit, sometimes quickly and sometimes with all the time in the world. So what will you see with your camera - come and join us to find out!

Camera Gear

You'll need to bring your own camera gear, and for digital photographers a laptop could be useful.   When you book your photo holiday, we'll ask you to tell us about your photographic experience, and what camera equipment you use.  We 'll talk to you and suggest what you'll find useful - for example, if you are joining us on a nature and wildlife photography holiday, you'll need a long lens.  A daysac or backpack is the best way to carry your equipment - one that is lightweight and has room for not only your camera gear, but also your water bottle and a waterproof or jumper.  On some of our holidays we trek or cycle so a backpack also means that the weight of your gear is balanced, and your hands are free to use your camera.

Take a 'back up' camera with you just in case something goes wrong! Remember to bring a travel plug or adapter. Digital photographers will need to bring everything they need - necessary connections, card readers, battery chargers and/or more memory cards than you think you'll need! Film photographers will need their film/labels - a small soft cooler bag is useful for keeping film in. Plus - don't forget your camera manual....! Cloth bags are a good idea to protect your camera and equipment from dirt and dust (especially in the desert!) - and an old toothbrush can be useful for dislodging sand from tripods!
