Bespoke cultural, photography and walking experiences in Ethiopia
- Ethiopian Experience Photography adventure Autumn 2012 - for reasonably fit & adventurous photographers (we've
toned the fitness level required down a bit on request, and also
because in 2012 we are now unable to visit the Danakil following advice
from the UK FCO)
- Discover Ethiopia A special photography and cultural experience Spring 2013
Ethiopia is vast, complex and one of the least developed Countries in
the world. Sustainable economic development has an important role to
play in Ethiopia's future and hopefully the social and environmental
implications of tourism growth can be planned and managed for the
benefit of all Ethiopians. Each year, Responsible Photography offer the
opportunity to travel with us on either a spring or autumn photography
holiday experience in Ethiopia. Both trips are a wonderful opportunity
for the adventurous traveller, thanks to our special partners and
friends, to have the chance to experience a Country that will surely
exceed all expectations. Whilst there are unique photographic challenges
and photography opportunities, we encourage and welcome people to join
us who are not purely interested in photography, but who want to travel
in a very tiny group and are genuinely interested in experiencing an
adventure to learn about life and culture in this beautiful Country.
Gail and her Responsible Photography partners in Ethiopia have worked hard to
plan and provide special and memorable stays in Ethiopia. Responsible
Photography's partner is developing a small professional sustainable
business where 'the true beneficiaries of tourism are the Ethiopian people, because they are the future of this beautiful country'.
Together, we all work very hard to make sure your personal experience
in Ethiopia will be rewarding from start to finish and offer you the chance to enjoy
friendly, shared encounters with the people who live in this dramatic
and diverse African Country. We partner directly with Ethiopians and
contribute directly to local livelihoods, income generating and
conservation projects. The accommodation we stay in varies from
camping, village lodges, community run tukuls and guest lodges to
private lodges and in a couple of places, larger hotels. Please be
aware that there will be times when we ask the photographers with us to
'hold back' with the camera because it just isn't culturally appropriate
to take photographs or because it is too intrusive, voyeuristic or
against local wishes. It is for this reason that we do not plan holidays in the South of Ethiopia with the tribes. You'll enjoy Ethiopia if you are a traveller,
rather than a tourist - if you are someone who is genuinely interested
in a bespoke adventure that may not necessarily always go according to
plan, but that will definitely involve really experiencing life in Ethiopia.
Our photography experiences in Ethiopia provide a chance to photograph
landscapes, architecture, nature and lots more. Some of the
accommodation we stay in does not have electricity, so digital
photographers need to be aware of this and plan to carry additional
batteries/cards. We are careful and responsible with 'people'
photography - only taking photographs openly and honestly, and we do not
encourage photographing children. We try to make sure that anyone who
is happy to be photographed, especially from the communities we stay in,
receive copies of any photographs taken by Responsible Photography
participants. We also ask that you think carefully about how you share
photographs especially people photographs, on facebook, flickr or other
social media websites - and in competitions. This is always an
interesting discussion and it is worthwile taking a look at the
different terms and conditions, and usage permissions for photography on
some of the social media and competition websites before you join us in
Ethiopia. Also, we ask that you carefully read the rules, terms and
conditions when entering photography and other competitions - do not
under any circumstances agree to forego your copyright or agree to
unrestricted worldwide useage for any purpose outside use for promoting
the competition. Please do think about the ethics of photographing
people on holiday and what you then do with those photographs. More
details are available on our main website at Responsible Photography. Joining us from the USA, Australia and New Zealand? It has been suggested by people who travelled with us in 2010 that you consider booking an
additional nights accommodation in Addis Ababa before the start of your holiday to
allow for any jetlag. |
