Fitness and other information about our photography holidays in Ethiopia.

There are high altitudes, sheer drops, narrow mountain hugging roads and steep paths as we travel on our Ethiopia photography holidays, so if you suffer from vertigo, or don't like heights, be warned! In Lalibela, visiting the rock-hewn churches involves climbing steps and walking on uneven ground. We stay in a variety of accommodation, from small guest accommodation, tukuls and community run lodges  to larger hotels, depending on location and availability. Sometimes the electricity or hot water supplies can be a bit eratic.  Ethiopia is in the very early stages of tourism development and whilst you will mainly receive a very warm welcome, please remember that you are visiting an extremely poor country, where infrastructure, facilities and even basic necessities cannot be taken for granted. Children often ask for sweets, money or pens, but we request that you do not give anything to them. Why? Because it sends out the wrong message and encourages an expectation that visitors will automatically 'give' them something. Giving food or sweets can also interfere with their diet and cause illness.  Instead, please buy locally made goods or products which means your money will contribute directly to someone's livelihood. The team in Ethiopia is employed fairly and properly, and everyone involved with Responsible Photography Holidays Ethiopia is bubbling with enthusiasm -  all working very hard and trying their very best. Come to Ethiopia with an open mind, a sense of adventure, a respectful, responsible approach to your photography and you won't go home disappointed.

Photography  - we have guidelines for photography and respect the wishes of local people and communities when taking photographs. We specifically request that photographs taken on a Responsible Photography Holiday, and specifically photographs of people who may allow you to photograph them, are not posted on 'rights grabbing' social media websites or entered into competitions that do not respect the copyright owner or content of the photograph. Please think very carefully about what you do with your photographs when you return home. More about this is explained and discussed in Ethiopia.
